Tuesday's Meeting

Dear DemOC PAC Members and Friends,

I'm sure you are as glued to all the media as I am. My TV is on too much, I read newspapers, Facebook, Instagram, everything people send me and I'm still hungry. Gen. John Kelly, Gen. Colin Powell, Senators Chuck Grassley, Lisa Murkowski and Mitt Romney have joined Gen. James Mattis in criticizing Trump. They are joined by the Bush's, Cindy McCain and additional high ranking military officers in their criticism. Senator Romney marched today. Colin Powell has endorsed Biden. Ads from Republicans against Trump have begun to show up on television. Are we at a turning point? Our reponse to Covid19 was terrible but now the covers have been pulled back.

I copied the following poem on my Instagram (from many others who posted it first) that I'm sure many of you have seen. It really spoke to me and, as I consume media I continue to look back at it.

What if 2020 isn't cancelled?
What if 2020 is the year we've been waiting for?
A year so uncomfortable, so painful, so scary, so raw -
that it finally forces us to grow
A year that screams so loud, finally awakening us
from our ignorant slumber.
A year we finally accept the need for change.
Declare change. Work for change. Become the change.
A year we finally band together, instead of
pushing each other further apart.

2020 isn't cancelled, but rather
the most important year of all.

I hope you will join us for our meeting on Tuesday, with our own Kevin O'Leary. Kevin will talk about his new book, Madison's Sorrow: Today's War on the Founders and America's Liberal Ideal and will also engage in discussion about what is happening in our country today. Yesterday

Dear DemOC PAC Members and Friends,

Yesterday, I had barely sent the email to you when Donald Trump took our country down a dark path. It was a sorrowful day and for awhile I was upset and without hope. Why can't the election be tomorrow? Why do we have such a useless group of Republicans (called illiberals by our upcoming speaker), who will not stand up to this man, as part of our government?

So I turned to some of my favorite media for solace and I found some that I wanted to share with you today. I find much of it from Jennifer Rubin, a conservative columnist who is strongly anti-Trump and is thoughtful and often right on. She wrote quickly yesterday and again today. And then, on CNN, Bernard Shaw spoke about the new and different movement and it was hopeful.

Take some time for Emmanuel Acho's "Uncomfortable Conversations with a Black Man". This is something I'm going to keep listening to.

Former CNN anchor Bernard Shaw speaks about "There is a new movement being born right now". It was nice to see him!

I hope you had a better day today. Please send me what you are reading or thoughts you have to share. Looking forward to seeing you next Tuesday!

Stay well and stay in touch,

Lita

You don't wat to miss this one!

I have delayed writing to you the last days. I have been watching the events surrounding the horrendous murder of George Floyd, the growing protests, fires, and more. How can such a cruel and wanton act against another human be carried out by those who are charged to "protect and serve" us? It has happened again and again. So many innocent victims, piled like the victims of COVID-19, who are disproportionately black and brown. The anger reaches a boiling point. These are protests and riots of helplessness, of fear, of sadness, of lost hope. Institutional and systemic racism are real. I want to help, to give comfort, to share the sadness, to come together....how can we fix this? Can we fix this?

I encourage you to watch this video from Trevor Noah: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v4amCfVbA_c

The optimist in me says the one act we can do, beyond listening, donating, standing together with the African-American and Brown communities is to VOTE, to do what we have been trying to do. It is ever more important to keep the House blue, and to turn the Senate and the White House BLUE. Blue is the color of hope for all of us.

Our next meeting is coming up on Tuesday, June 9 and an exciting author is joining us! You know him...Kevin O'Leary (my husband) has just published a book, Madison's Sorrow: Today's War on the Founders and America's Liberal Ideal. His book does something no other recent book does, it tells the road we traveled to reach the awful election of President Trump. Madison's Sorrow begins with a cinematic moment when an emissary of George Wallace met with Presidential candidate and Senator Barry Goldwater just prior to the 1964 Republican National Convention on the rooftop of the Mark Hopkins Hotel in San Francisco. It also goes back to the Founders and the Civil War and traces how we got to this time, a time of reactionary illiberals vs. the traditional Republican Party and the Democrats. In light of what is happening in our world today, his book is very relevant. Booklist gave Madison's Sorrow a starred review and called it "Essential reading."

I hope you will join us to hear

Dear DemOC PAC Members and Friends,
S

Great news from the Political Research Committee of DemOC PAC!
The membership of the PAC just voted to give another $1,000 each to Congressman Mike Levin, Congresswoman Katie Porter and Congressman Harley Rouda!!!
Thank you all for your contributions and membership, you have made this possible!

Given what is happening in our world, we are all carrying a heavy burden. While sheltering relatively alone, together we shoulder this burden for our society and the country we love. We shoulder it for the brothers and sisters in our country who have never been treated fairly or equally. We have cringed and cried and marched with them. We may not know exactly what they are feeling but we know what we feel about them. We want this to end. We want equality and fairness. We loved Barack Obama and some part of us hoped maybe the problem of racism had improved.

But now it's far worse. We must get Donald Trump out of office. We must take back the Senate. We must keep the House. So that we have some hope of equality and fairness, some hope of return to a real democracy where freedom for all exists.

DemOC PAC has been here for more than 10 years, with barely any overhead. We are strategic, we give to federal candidates in Orange County and around the country where we think our dollars can make a real difference. We bundle so we have a bigger impact as a group. We run our volunteer organization professionally, and our members are smart. We need to raise money and we have barely 5 months left.

Please...

Thanks to everyone who signed up to write postcards to

Hold the House and Clean the House of Jim Jordan and Devin Nunes
Signup is now closed. We had to double our postcard order and stretch the cards thinner than we wanted to allow all volunteers to write! It's a great problem to have, and hopefully an indicator of landslides to come in 2020. If you missed Round 1 and would like to write postcards to help Flip the Senate in Round 2 toward the end of June, please sign up now at this link: https://forms.gle/GoJAfe8pSYHzdCwQ9
Please Note: If you are writing postcards in Round 1, we will assume you are in for Round 2 as well; no need to sign up again.

As a reminder, we are about 5 months away from the election. We are asking everyone who can to write postcards to Hold the House and Flip the Senate on November 3, 2020!

Round 1: Hold the House, Clean the House. We are starting our campaign now, with postcards to boost voter registration and turnout in 2 Congressional Districts to defeat Jim Jordan (Ohio) and Devin Nunes (Fresno, CA).
Round 2: Flip the Senate. We will do another batch of postcards in late June after the Kentucky and South Carolina primary elections, to help Ditch Mitch McConnell and Retire Lindsey Graham!
Round 3: Keep the OC Blue. If you aren’t already involved, we will transition to volunteering on campaigns (postcarding, phonebanking, etc.) for our OC incumbent Representatives in July.

Your packets will include 20-30 postcards, addresses, suggested scripts, and instructions for returning your packet or having it collected.
  • first class postage on each card if possible.
    We ask you to provide
  • We will drop off packets to your house, or you can pick them up from Julie in Irvine if you prefer.
  • You will have about a week to complete your cards.
  • We will pick up the completed, stamped cards so that we can mail the cards via our contacts within the targeted Congressional districts (to get local postmarks).
  • Thanks again for volunteering your time to help push the Blue Wave across the country in 2020!
