Update!

If there is one thing we can count on in this life, it is change. So much has changed in the last week... it is hard to keep up. As this LA Times piece succinctly points out, American culture is shifting rapidly since the death of George Floyd. White people and others are rushing to learn what it means to be "anti-racist," the concept of policing is being reformed before our eyes, the news business is reckoning with its own biases and discriminatory policies, and corporate America is investing in social justice and civil rights causes.

Our so called president held a rally where the number of empty seats was greater than the number of people wearing masks, and armed white men casually roamed freely around the perimeter. Did TikTok fans and K-pop stars really organize to secure all those empty seats?! How cool! That, combined with the ongoing and very well-organized and multi-racial Black Lives Matter protests should give us all hope that the next generation is going to carry us through these darkest of days. Now if we could only get a running mate out of Joe Biden, we could ramp up the excitement among our ranks a notch or 2!

We are challenged to accept the reality of change as a constant on a daily basis, especially as coronavirus-related stay home advisories can make us feel stuck. But as our speaker, Kevin O'Leary, suggested earlier this month, we are in the midst of a major cultural shift, perhaps even a revolution, but we can't see it because we're in the middle of it. I think it's safe to say 2020 is not at all what we thought it would be at this time last year, and though our heads may be spinning at times, we are all investigating and embracing the changes as best we can.

We are working on plans for our July meeting, which will again be online. The focus will be how we can be better white allies and what we can do to address systematic racism. Do let us know if there are speakers or topics you would like to see us address in the coming weeks and months.

Meanwhile, please take some time to explore this excellent guide,
31 Resources That Will Help You Become a Better White Ally. https://www.self.com/story/white-ally-resources

Stay safe everybody!
DemOC PAC Crew
Dearest DemOC PAC Members and Friends,

And now for a moment of gratitude.
DEMOC PAC has given over $50,000 to support Congressional and Senate campaigns in these
past 2 crucial years!!!

That includes the recent $1,000 donations each to Congressman Mike Levin, Congresswoman Katie Porter and Congressman Harley Rouda.

Thank you all for your membership and additional contributions... you made this possible!

How incredible would it be if we could give $50,000 more between now and November 3?!!

DemOC PAC has been here for more than 10 years, bundling funds from Orange County donors to have a stronger impact on federal elections than any of us could have as individuals.

We are strategic in our research, and we give only to federal Democratic candidates.
In 2018 and 2020, we carefully selected and supported critical races where our bundled dollars helped 15 of the 19 races we supported to win!

Our dollars make a real difference around the country,
as well as in Orange County.
We run our volunteer organization professionally, and our leaders work hard.
We respect everyone's time and talent, and our members are wicked smart.
Our overhead is minimal (some accounting hours, which our Treasurer, Cindy Hadden, minimizes with her excellent volunteer skills).

We need to raise more money to expand our contribution list...there are many tight races around the country! We have barely 4 months left before Nov. 3, 2020.

Please...

Julie Tapp here. Happy summer of 2020 y'all!

I hope everyone who can has turned out for at least one Black Lives Matter or Juneteenth protest, or driven by to honk in support! Voice of OC has been doing a great job of reporting on such events before and after they happen. Hopefully after Norberto Santana's fantastic presentation to DemOC PAC last year, you are all subscribed and contributing to this important OC news source! Also, here is a link to Black-owned businesses in Orange County in case you're interested in supporting. And do check out the resource link above about being a better ally for Black and brown people...this is super important here in Orange County!

Big thanks to everyone who wrote postcards to Hold the House and Clean the House of Jim Jordan and Devin Nunes! DemOC PAC members and friends wrote 1,000 of the 9,000 postcards produced by the Blue Wave 2020 Coalition and delivered to voters in those 2 races.

We are about 4 months away from the election. We are asking everyone who can to write and stamp 30-40 postcards to Flip the Senate on November 3, 2020!
To help Flip the Senate, please sign up to write postcards now if you haven't already at this link: https://forms.gle/GoJAfe8pSYHzdCwQ9
If you wrote postcards in Round 1, we have your info and there is NO NEED TO SIGN UP AGAIN.

Round 1: Hold the House, Clean the House. Campaign completed.
Round 2: Flip the Senate. We will do another batch of postcards in July after the Kentucky and South Carolina primary elections, to help Ditch Mitch McConnell and Retire Lindsey Graham!
Round 3: Keep the OC Blue. If you aren’t already involved, we will transition to volunteering on campaigns (postcarding, phonebanking, etc.) for our OC incumbent Representatives in August - November 3.

Thanks again for volunteering your time to help push the Blue Wave across the country in 2020!

    County Board of Education Election

Join us this coming Tuesday, January 14 for our first meeting of 2020, when we discuss the critical March 3 County Board of Education Election. (That's the one that includes the Presidential Primary along with our Congresspeople!) Since my last email we have assembled quite a panel to discuss the OC Board of Ed race and it should prove fascinating. Following the panel, we will open the floor for discussion about what is happening in Iran & Iraq, the latest developments in Trump's impeachment and our goals for 2020. We cannot wait to join together.
